Dear Wine X,
Congratulations on the second edition of your magazine. I think in terms of content, style, photography and overall presentation, you have all done a fantastic job. Wine X deserves to be THE publication for the younger wine drinkers and those who are starting to have an interest in wine. Well done.
Jack Rasterhoff Dear Wine X, As a Gen X wine consumer, I congratulate your initiative in launching a wine mag which aims to give wine a reality check. Make it relevant, make it approachable, and make it enjoyable. As Gen X wine producers, my husband and I spend a lot of time with our own wines and so are always interested in seeing how others perceive them. We enjoyed reading your recommendations of four of our wines, especially the 2000 semillion that you likened to "lying with an overweight lover on day-old cut grass after the rain". In regards to your first editorial linking wine and surfing, being married to a winemaker who has also surfed since the age of six, the most significant correlation between the two for him is his obsession of watching the weather, reading the conditions and predicting the ride. In our case this year in the Hunter, Vintage 2001 was a big swell that was closing out fast. Loved your first two mags, keep up the great work.
Lisa Margan Dear Wine X, It's hip, it's groovy, it's approachable...the way the wine industry should be. I think it's great! Congratulations Wine X.
Amber Trewenack Dear Wine X, Thanks for teaching me about corked wine in last issue. It came in handy but I was left questioning myself. You see, my sister invited us to spend a weekend at their friend's beach house in Noosa. Most of the crew were restaurateurs, so we sat down to a lunch of smoked salmon, prawns and lots of other good food. Anyway, someone opens the wine and says "Ooooh, I think this wine is corked", and proceeds to pass it around the table so others could turn up their nose in horror. Finally, someone says "we can't drink that, throw it out and open another bottle". Now, although I knew what they were talking about I didn't think it was that bad, I mean, it was a good drop and it just went down the sink. I would have drunk it. Did I do the right thing considering the company I was keeping? Would it have been way too uncool to say, "Hey! Don't waste a perfectly good bottle of wine -- I'll drink it!" Ciao.
Di Josipovic Hi Wine X I was blown away (not literally) by the refreshing approach of your new wine/culinary magazine. It will appeal to a whole new sector of consumers who realise you don't need to walk around like you've got a bottle of Grange up your butt to appreciate wine. Cheers. Baxter Fagan Dear Wine X I am not a kleptomaniac and have no desire to be bounced out of the Qantas Club, but when I perused your first mag in the Perth lounge five minutes before my flight boarded, well, it just happened to make its way into my backpack (minus the hard plastic folder thingy). Sensational. Had to buy the second and might even subscribe. Congrats on a no-nonsense bit of escapism and education. Cheers Troy Forrest Dear Wine X, Congratulations on your launch, it's great to see a new entrant on the landscape. Hopefully Wine X will demystify the whole wine thing for the younger generation. We first got into the US edition of Wine X about a year ago and loved it straight away, it's great to see that it's finally reached our shores. We just launched our site (www.cloudwine.com.au) four weeks ago, and being in our early-mid twenties, we too are targeting a younger generation of wine drinkers, especially those that are looking to broaden their wine drinking horizons. We look forward to seeing Wine X go from strength to strength. Cheers.
