Just A Matter Of Time
by Darryl Roberts
Magazine Issue: Vol. 2.6
With the release of this issue, Wine X is officially one year old. Some thought we'd never make it this far. A few hoped we'd never publish a second issue. But consumer support has been overwhelming. Now, it's just a matter of convincing the wine industry that we're a viable and needed vehicle to deliver their next generation of wine drinkers.

A month ago we learned that Wine X was chosen as one of the most notable magazines released in 1997. In Dr. Samir Husni's Guide to New Consumer Magazines, we were one of only 30 magazines in a field of more than 850 launched last year to have earned this honor. Dr. Husni is America's leading authority on consumer publications and has published his Guide for 13 years. He rates new publications based on the amount of publicity the magazines receive, their relevance to leading issues of the day, the degree to which the publications are diversified and specialized and the innovation behind the magazines.

This honor is due mostly to my fine staff of writers, editors and designers. It's one thing to have a vision or a good idea, quite another to find talented people to pull it all together. My hat goes off to them. Of course I also want to thank those of you who've supported us this first year. Without readers like you, who are a bit more open-minded when it comes to wine, we would never have made it this far.

Inside this issue you'll find a new feature called G-Spot -- "G" standing for glamour, of course. This section will showcase up-and-coming fashion ideas for young adults, paired with new trends in wine and winemaking. Edited by urban networker Mo Clancy, this pictorial-driven feature will inspire new attitudes toward integrating wine into your everyday lifestyle.

One of our most popular features is back: "Wines Under 15 Bucks." We've compiled wines from the last three issues and put them in one convenient location So if you're budget-conscious or fiscally challenged, this might just be the guide for you.

Our Special Report this time explores regions of Spain and Portugal. Senior Editor Rosina Tinari Wilson and I recently visited these two Mediterranean countries, and we hope you'll find our travel chronicles and tasting notes both entertaining and educational.

If you dig tequila, you definitely want to check out our Vices section for Marguerite Thomas' educational article on this new hot beverage rage sweeping the country. If you dig tequila and music, you won't want to miss our interview with Sammy Hagar and his new brand of "Cabo Wabo" tequila.

I see my space is up. Hope you enjoy this issue. 'Til next time I'm...
